In the heart of the 17th arrondissement, Paris Étoile, also known as the former Concorde La Fayette hotel, offers a breathtaking view of the capital’s most beautiful monuments.
Ideally located a few blocks from the Arc du Triomphe and Avenue des Champs-Elysées, this 38-storey skyscraper provides direct access to the Palais des congrès and places it as a key business centre within the capital. As much appreciated for professional congresses as for tourist stays, the new Parisian flagship of the Hyatt group has just been completely renovated.
Full Case Study
Built in 1974, the building that now houses the Hyatt Paris Étoile has just completed a major renovation program.
Spread over more than two years, the refreshment work carried out has given a new lease of life to the 995 rooms in the hotel complex. The decorative line is refined, clear and contemporary in full compliance with the hotel’s four-star classification standards. The metamorphosis of the skyscraper is also spectacular thanks to the lifting of all the meeting rooms and reception area. The raw and noble materials are highlighted, the rooms and suites are decorated with wood species while the lobby is totally adorned with grey marble.
The new catering areas each offer a concept. The atmosphere created for the Mayo restaurant, located in the heart of the lobby, ensures the conviviality of an afterwork with local products, in the spirit of the typical Parisian bistro. Windo, the iconic panoramic bar, has regained its splendour and reopened its doors after refining a chic and hushed decoration. Re-designed by New York architect George Wong, this refined place at an altitude of 140 metres attracts crowds for its chic and Parisian atmosphere.
The complete transformation of the only Paris skyscraper hotel required time and a corresponding redevelopment budget. During the construction period, the panoramic bar was temporarily closed and the number of rooms available was reduced to 200, but this preventive measure, aimed at maintaining the comfort and calm promised to customers, resulted in an operating loss during the renovation work.
The attraction generated by the location of the Regency Étoile, its size and the diversity of the activities offered attract both curious and regular visitors. Traffic is constant and incessant. Between the residents of the hotel’s 995 rooms, the respective restaurant customers and the users of the 2,800 m² of modular work and reception areas, the building must be able to accommodate more than 6,000 people on a daily basis without showing any sign of damage.
From a logistical point of view, daily deliveries of goods and the flows inherent in the maintenance of the premises are intrinsic characteristics of the life of a hotel establishment. These are also wear factors to consider during a renovation project.
In order to maintain the Regency Paris Étoile’s label and standing over the long term and preserve this new setting in perfect condition, the project management team wanted to include solutions in the specifications that anticipate damage and prevent future renovation work.
In response to the Hyatt hotel group’s expectation of efficiency in protecting the 34-storey traffic and keeping it in its original state, Construction Specialties recommended the continuous installation of bumpers SCR 50.
The curved design of the profile is elegant, discreet and guarantees maximum protection against impact. The integrated filament shock absorber ensures impact absorption without the shock wave being reflected into the wall. This characteristic, typical of Acrovyn® profiles, does not weaken the bumper attachment points and protects the walls even more.
Selected in the Raphia colour, more than 4,350 linear metres of bumpers are used to cover the corridors of the common areas and corridors of the Parisian IGH. Strategically positioned 20 cm from the floor, the profiles protect the walls and their various coverings (textile, paint, works of art, etc.) from impacts, snags, tears in the wall fabric and traces linked to the constant passage of luggage and janitorial carts.
The implementation of the wall protections was very fast and efficient thanks to a team of 20 construction workers specially assigned to this site. In order to facilitate handling in an occupied environment, the extruded aluminium supports, components of the bumper attachment, have been cut into 2-metre sections. The exclusive flexibility offered by the Acrovyn® material allows the bumpers SCR 50 to follow the wall curves of the corridors without prior bending operations.
After two years of improvement work, the emblematic hotel at Porte Maillot has regained its splendour.
